Mystical Venda Tour
Day 1: Mudjadji Discovery
The area around Tzaneen, less than an hour from Basambilu Lodge is known for its lush tea plantations and breathtaking landscape.
En route to Mudjadji Cycads Nature Reserve you’ll visit a 2000 year old Baobab, the largest one known, formerly home to a post office, and a pub.
The tour then goes on to the Mudjadji Cycads Nature Reserve, centre for the Mudjadji people and their tragic Rain Queen, visit the palace of Mudjadji and see the amazing cycads in the reserve.
Last stop before your campsite at Thohoyandou is a visit to a pottery and wood carving project where local artisans create and display their wares.
Day 2 - 3: Land of the Venda
Day 2 starts with a visit to Phiphidi Waterfalls and the sacred hidden forest "Thathe Vonde Forest". Your guide will reveal the myths and legends of the mystical life of the Venda people.
On Day 3 Enjoy the beautiful landscape around Lake Fundusi near the pioneer (Great Trek) town of Louis Trichardt and return home to Basambilu.
