About

Basambilu Lodge lies at the heart of Lulekani, the tribal home of Shangaan people, famous for their ritual magic healing, and fabulous flying dancers. Only a few short miles from the gates of Kruger Park, South Africa’s most famous tourist destination, Basambilu is central to the mountains of Mpumalanga, and the hills of the mystic Venda lands.

It is the perfect spot to experience African life from a tribal village perspective. Share a drink at the bar with the locals, or watch the village children at their sponsored swimming lessons in the pool. Or check out one of our tours.

It’s all within easy reach. If you’re interested in volun-tourism activities, Basambilu plays an active role with LekaGape orphanage where children displaced by the ravages of HIV or domestic violence find a safe shelter, and free education. Many of the lodge’s visitors are actively volunteering or interning with the children.

Guided trips to nearby surroundings as well as the whole of southern Africa are offered on a regular basis.

The lodge is famous for its tribal village tour, where you’ll see the world from a new perspective, meet the local people, enter their houses, sample their cuisine, have an audience with a sangoma ritual healer, and watch their famous flying dancers.

If it’s AFRICA you came to see, you’ll find her at Basambilu.
